In order to ensure breastfeeding gets off to a good start, it is recommended that you breastfeed within an hour after the birth and that you practice Kangaroo Care (skin-to-skin contact). According to UNICEF (breastcrawl.org), "every newborn, when placed on the mother's abdomen, soon after birth, has the ability to find its mothers breast all on its own and to decide when to take the first breastfeed."
